Honey-Garlic Glazed Salmon

The Story/Context

Whenever I am craving a restaurant-quality meal but don't want to spend an hour standing over a stove, this quick glazed salmon is my absolute go-to. This dish takes less than 20 minutes to pull together and features a sticky, savory-sweet honey garlic glaze that caramelizes beautifully as it cooks. It perfectly coats the fish, locking in the natural juices and giving you a tender, flaky protein that tastes incredibly decadent.

Why it Works

Salmon is naturally rich in healthy omega-3 fatty acids, meaning it has a wonderful, buttery richness to it. By pairing it with a sharp garlic and sweet honey reduction, we create a flavor profile that cuts through that natural richness. It is a perfectly balanced glaze that makes this dish an absolute hit, even for family members who aren't usually massive fans of seafood.

Ingredients:

  • 4 salmon fillets (skin-on or skinless, about 6 oz each)
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari)
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional garnish: Sliced green onions or sesame seeds
  • Instructions:

    1. Prep the Fish: Pat your salmon fillets completely dry with a paper towel. Chef's tip: Removing surface moisture is the secret to getting a gorgeous, golden-brown pan sear rather than steaming the fish. Season both sides lightly with salt and black pepper.
    2. Whisk the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, and fresh lemon juice until smooth. Set it right next to your stove so it is ready to pour.
    3. Sear the Salmon: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, place the salmon fillets flesh-side down in the pan. Sear undisturbed for 4 to 5 minutes until a beautiful golden crust forms, then carefully flip them over.
    4. Caramelize the Glaze: Reduce the heat to medium. Pour the honey garlic mixture directly into the pan around the salmon. As the sauce begins to bubble and simmer, use a spoon to continuously baste the top of the salmon fillets with the glaze.
    5. Thicken and Finish: Cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. The honey will begin to reduce and turn into a sticky, glossy glaze that clings to the fish. Pull the pan off the heat the second the salmon flakes easily with a fork to avoid overcooking.

Chef’s Pro-Tip: To get a better sear, make sure your salmon is completely dry with a paper towel before placing it in the hot pan.

Serving Suggestion: Spoon the extra sticky glaze from the bottom of the pan right over the top of the fillets before serving. This salmon pairs beautifully over a bed of fluffy jasmine rice or alongside garlic-roasted broccoli to soak up every last drop of that sweet-and-savory sauce.
